Why this source converts well

The converter can separate a solid dark shape from a light background without having to interpret texture, lighting, or perspective. The outer boundary usually becomes one closed DXF polyline, while intentional holes can become separate inner contours.

This workflow is useful for decorative panels, simple signs, workshop templates, gasket sketches, stencils, and other flat profiles where the visible silhouette already matches the geometry you need.

Prepare the stencil image

Crop close to the shape and remove text, borders, dust, ruler marks, and scanning shadows. Keep deliberate holes clearly separated from the outer edge. Export the cleaned result as PNG when possible so compression artifacts do not create small unwanted contours.

  • Use a white or transparent background with a solid dark shape.
  • Remove tiny isolated marks that should not become geometry.
  • Keep narrow bridges wide enough to remain visible at the source resolution.
  • Avoid soft shadows, gradients, and antialiased screenshots when a clean export is available.

What to inspect in the DXF

Open the result in CAD and verify that the outside profile is closed. Check every inner contour before using it as a hole or cutout, because small marks in the source image may also appear as closed geometry.

Set the real-world scale from a known measurement, remove duplicate or unwanted contours, and replace tolerance-critical holes and arcs with precise CAD geometry before manufacturing.
